If you would like to natural-dye your own fibers in preparation for doing a Navajo Weaving, Carol Leigh's Hillcreek Fiber Studio carries a large selection of dyes, mordants, and washing agents suitable for that purpose. Go to our Natural Dyes & Aids page for listings and ordering information.

NAVAJO WEAVING: a Four-day Workshop (5 & 1/2 days for the Advanced Navajo Weaving Workshop). The Navajo have a unique way of dressing their loom, so the loom is portable the weaving has no fringe! This tapestry technique creates a firm weave structure suitable for rugs, vests, carrying bags, pillow covers, saddle blankets, or wall hangings. Learn technique, legends and lore through Carol Leigh's experiences both on reservation and off, with Sara Natani and Noël Bennett. Navajo looms, forks, battens, spindles and yarns are available for purchase during the workshop. Natural Churro wool colors are available to spin for your own yarns, if desired. A Supply List will be sent when you register. Loom rentals may be applied during the Workshop to the purchase price.

WORKSHOP TUITION: Four days - - $220.00 (Advanced Navajo Weaving Class with Sarah Natani - - $395.00)

BED and BREAKFAST: $45 for the first night per student, $40 each night thereafter

Hillcreek Fiber Studio is located three miles south of the Columbia, MO city limits amidst pastures and woods bordering the Little Bonne Femme Creek, in sight of Rock Bridge State Park.

SHUTTLE Transportation between Hillcreek Fiber Studio and the airports in either Kansas City or St Louis can be arranged through Mo-X.

WORKSHOP HOURS: Workshops are scheduled 10:00 am to 5:00 pm the first day of each session and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm the last day, to allow travel time before and after workshops. Other days are scheduled 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
